CranioSacral
Mark MacNeil is an advanced level Craniosacral Therapist certified by the world renowned Upledger Institute. He enjoys working with the Upledger Institute as a Teaching Assistant for their lecture circuit and has been invited to precept as part of their Advanced Level 1 and 2 CranioSacral Therapy Programs. To assist other practitioners in developing their skills, he currently hosts an Upledger approved CranioSacral Study Group in Montreal.
His philosophy is to treat each person as a unique individual rather than an example of a particular disorder. With this in mind, treatments are dynamic, tailored, and evolve based on each patients needs.
Natural healing is a daily occurrence. Our bodies were designed to heal themselves but most of us have forgotten how to listen, or respond to, the signals we receive. Mark’s role is that of a facilitator. By working with you in a partnership, he will act as a catalyst to help you balance your body and heal yourself.
Presently living and working in Montreal, he treats children and adults seeking help with acute or chronic pain, trauma, neurological problems, learning and developmental issues, facial and oral dysfunction.
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is currently one of the most successful and fastest growing approaches to mind-body-spirit healing. CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the CranioSacral System - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a light-touch approach, practitioners release tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance.
By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems.

CranioSacral Therapy for Children
Although the journey through childbirth is amazing, it can induce profound stresses on the infant which may later be evident through dysfunction. CranioSacral Therapy uses a gentle form of touch which is ideal for helping children overcome congenital and acquired health challenges and for preventing new ones from occurring. Because the technique is so gentle, non-invasive and virtually risk-free, children of all ages can benefit.

An Integrative Approach
Although he considers his principal modality to be CranioSacral Therapy, Mark is also certified in Massage Therapy, Reflexology, and Reiki at the Master/Teacher Level. As an extension to his CranioSacral Therapy studies, he has also received training in SomatoEmotional Release, Visceral Manipulation, and Brain, Nuclei, Fluid and the Autonomic Nervous System. Depending on the client’s specific needs, treatment can integrate a variety of modalities and techniques.
SomatoEmotional Release (SER) is an extension of CranioSacral Therapy and is a body-mind technique which allows not just mechanical or body memories of trauma to be released, but sometimes significant emotional components as well. Research conducted in the late ‘70s by Dr. John Upledger and biophysicist Zvi Karni led to the discovey that the body often retains the emotional imprint of physical or emotional trauma or shock. These imprints, especially of intense feelings that may have occurred at the
time of injury (anger, fear, resentment, grief) leave residues than can delay the healing process for years.
Visceral Manipulation was developed by French Osteopath, Jean-Pierre Barral. At optimal heath, the relationship between the organs (viscera) and structures of the body (muscles, membranes, fasciae and bones) remains stable despite the body’s endless varieties of motion. But when an organ can’t move in harmony with its surrounding viscera due to abnormal tone, adhesions or displacement, it works against all the body’s organs and structures and paves the way for disease and dysfunction. Visceral Manipulation gently improves the natural mobility of the viscera there by improving overall health.
